CHILDHOOD WITHOUT TRUCE, FORCED DISPLACEMENT (2016-2018)

The following report systematizes data on forced internal displacement due to violence and its impact on children and adolescents. The information focuses on this population group to reveal the effects that increase the vulnerability of girls, boys, and youth. Firstly, the report contextualizes the manifestation of violence in El Salvador to later characterize the expression of forced displacement in Salvadoran boys, girls, and youth. This characterization is made mainly through data from the monitoring system that Cristosal has implemented since 2016. Consequently, an analysis is carried out on forced displacement from January 2016 to June 2018. Likewise, the report also analyzes data from the beneficiaries of Plan International programs, who were victims of forced displacement. Then two areas related to forced displacement are analyzed: school dropout and migration. In both topics, in addition to having data from official sources, data from Cristosal and the Education and Cooperation Foundation (EDUCO) are offered in order to explore this problem from the perspective of social organizations. Lastly, a series of recommendations are offered, directed especially to the Salvadoran State, in order to advocate in favor of children and youth who are victims of forced displacement. Cristosal thanks Plan Internacional and EDUCO for their commitment to making visible this problem that is affecting children and youth. The data provided by both organizations strengthens the positioning that emerges from the data systematized by the Cristosal monitoring unit.
