Displacements due to violence increased in 2017: Cristosal

Girls and young women were the most affected by forced displacement due to violence

Cristosal and the Quetzalcóatl Foundation presented a report titled Internal Forced Displacement due to Violence during 2017. The report revealed an increase in victims and cases due to this social phenomenon. The document also revealed that the actors that generate forced displacement continue to be gangs and members of the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Armed Forces (FAES).

During 2017, 186 cases of forced displacement were registered. 375 people fled their places of residence due to violence, and 326 people had the need to flee from it but did not do so for various reasons, according to data from social organizations.

Both foundations identified the gangs, PNC and FAES, as the two main actors causing forced displacement.
