Costa Rica is the country in the region where the most asylum applications are sent by Salvadorans, according to data cited in the study on forced displacement presented by Cristosal.
In 2010, 3,810 Salvadorans requested asylum in different countries of the world. In the following years, the requests increased, until in 2016 they were 43,302, according to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The 2017 data is not up to date yet.
