Internal displacement of children and youth increases due to violence in El Salvador

A report prepared by the Cristosal organization shows that there was a 43% increase in children and youth who were victims of displacement due to violence last year compared to 2016. In other words, Cristosal identified 360 cases during 2017 and only 251 during the previous year.

Rina Monti, a representative of Cristosal, said that the highest percentage of cases registered by the organization involve children between 0 and 11 years of age with 41.3%, following are youth between 18 and 25 years old with 38%, and in third place, adolescents with 20.6%. Cristosal clarified that these numbers only reflect the cases that the organization has been able to document.
